Drop it On The Blank Page.
“There are the writers, and then, there are those who write.”
But whatever the case, we all have been confronted with this dilemma: What do you do when you keep looking at the blank page and nothing comes to mind?
This said, through my interest in literature, I have encountered many people who aspire to become writers or poets and have exposed the same inquietude to me. Indeed, it’s an enervating situation. The muse simply is not there.
You may be one of these frustrated creators, and I’m here to give you a hand to the best of my knowledge and experience.
Frustration, my friends, is not always a bad thing. Sometimes, it is the fuel that feeds creativity. Indeed, many great works have been born after the author experienced deep frustration, delusion, or bitterness. Can you name some of these writers or poets and their works? Please do some research, and you will learn a lot. It will be your homework.
So, my answer to the blank page question is to practice this exercise: unload your frustrations and burden on the blank page. The blank page can also be a great tool to alleviate stress, and you can download your mute screams, rage, and rebellion there. Don’t even think about what you are writing, and never stop to read what is on the page and correct it. Never. Just keep writing at the full speed of your fingers on the keyboard or grabbing the pen if that’s how you do it.
So, use that blank page as your punching bag. Do not hesitate to leave your dreams, nightmares, sorrows, traumas, memories and experiences on the blank page. That’s what makes a writer and a poet better. With time, because you must leave it a time, those thoughts, wrath or love, memories or research, whatever it is, will transform into a poem or a story.
Besides, leaving everything on the blank page is the best remedy for a writer’s insomnia because it’s an excellent exercise if you want to sleep deeply and peacefully. You can do this exercise every night if you feel like doing it before sleeping. I do it daily and wake up refreshed, optimistic, and creative.
