We Were Friends

Hello, my friends. I hope you are all well. Here is a poem that comes from my romantic inspiration and experience. Why not? You may love it. Yeah, love is one of the two most needed feelings in these turbulent times. The other one is peace, but let’s start with love.

 We Were Friends

She and I were friends

Friendship added spice to our lives

And so it went until one moment

While wishing each other good night

At her doorstep

She whispered something in my ear

What it was, I don’t remember

I only remember we were friends

Friendship added flavour to our lives

Perhaps there was a hidden feeling

There is always a hidden feeling, people say

Between two, regardless of which of the two

Keep it most secret this feeling

Beyond friendship, this secret

And so, in the stillness of the night

She and I sheltered ourselves

Away from too much shadow

And rushed time to beat the distance

That between she and I existed

We embraced, and a kiss broke

Like a fine crystal, the spell of friendship

Being by then different persons in our eyes

Our lips took over unfinished conversations

And we ever hold fast to the blessed hope

Of everlasting love

Aye! Love is a spark that flares in the eyes

Burst in the skin, inflames the heart

Ignites friendship and the soul

We vowed to be friends

But love, our friendship stole

We vowed to be friends

Nothing would take us apart

We vowed to be friends

Til love did us part.
