In Silence And From A Distance

In Silence And From A Distance

A poem by Sal Godoij

I loved you, Rose Lynn.

I loved you in silence and from a distance

Like God loves you.

This may sound a sacrilege

But when you love, you turn into God

And when you hate, you become Evil.

Rose Lynn, aye, Rose Lynn

Why you couldn't take me in

Your heart, where it has been

Release me from the mirage

From my dreams, your image

Every sleepless night

Every restless day

Every endless dawn.

Love is a transparent veil

But you couldn't see through it

You couldn't see through my love

Rose Lynn.

But you could feel it if you wanted to

As any lover can feel their lover's heart beating for them

But I wasn't your lover. I know

I was just a friend.

And so

My kisses never reached your lips

Like sparks glowing in the flare

My kisses kept flowing in the air

My verses never reached your heart

Like sparrows seeking a nest

My verses escaped my chest

And scattered through the blue

Looking for a nest to rest

Why you couldn't take me in

Rose Lynn?

Your heart, where has it been?

Please release me from this mirage

From my dreams, your image,

In silence and from a distance

I must tell you, I might

At every sleepless night

At every endless dawn

So forgotten, so alone, so forgone

In silence and from a distance

As every sleepless night

I think of you tonight.
