Tears in the Rain

Living from wish to wish, I’ve lived my life

Leaving me broken-hearted

Think of it, you, my elusive lover, you

Think of me living broken-hearted

Crying in the rain

And yet, despite the pain

I’m still living, still wondering, still believing

Have I ever visited you in your dreams?

I know I haven’t

Dreams are but your wishes masked

And I know I’m not one of them

Have you ever seen my shadow in your dreams?

I know you haven’t

Conversely to sunlight in the waking world

In your dreams, the light comes from within you

So there are no shadows, no sorrows, no tears

And so, despite your fears

You’re still living, still wondering, still believing

Would you be happier if I forgot you?

I know you didn’t ask for this love

But you know love is a divine gift

And it’s not for you to pick or sift

Have you ever seen your inner beauty in your dreams?

If you haven’t seen it yet, you will

In your dreams, in your shadowless dreams

Think of it, you, my elusive lover, you

The moon reflects in the lake

But the lake doesn’t own the moon

Nor does the moon own the lake

But when my eyes reflect in your eyes

Then, you own me. I know you own me

And yet, although insane

I’m still loving, still believing

Still crying in the rain
