A Little Restless Monkey

 I have a dream

It’s not a big dream like a giant gorilla that beats its chest and roars

And the entire Hollywood trembles

On the contrary, my dream is little, like a little restless monkey

And it’s so playful that I must keep it in a cage, which is my rib cage

Close to my heart

In there, my playful little restless monkey dream hangs from my heart

As if my heart were a tree branch

I feed it with lies, sometimes

And it goes bananas

Bananas!

Can you lie to a dream?

Yes, you can, although it’s like lying to yourself

My dream is gullible and believes in me

And even though I keep it in a cage, which is my rib cage

My playful little restless monkey dream feels moved by my care

Despite my lies, my dream wants to help me

It wants to come true

And so, even though I lie to it, it believes in me

My dream believes in my lies

It’s not suspicious, and I love it for that and more

At night, I sleep soundly. We sleep together

I sleep, but it doesn’t

My playful little restless monkey dream never sleeps

Instead, it watches my sleep from its prison cage, my rib cage

Hanging from the tree branch, which is my heart

It keeps away from my brain, away

It doesn’t get along with my brain; it keeps away

But this is a matter of another conversation

So, I sleep, and it watches my sleep

As if I were its dream, the dream of a dream

A watchful dream

And every morning, my watchful playful little restless monkey dream

Wakes up hungry, curious, and feels amazed

Feels shocked!

Of finding me here every morning

Every morning dreaming

In the same place where I began dreaming

Years and years, and years ago.
