A Changing Body
Where did we come from?
We don’t know
Where were we before birth?
We don’t know
What do we know?
We know that life dressed us with a body
With a heart, a mind, a spirit
Skin, blood, muscle, and bones
A constantly changing body
A constantly changing soul
We schooled ourselves with lessons
Coming from the inside world
We schooled ourselves with things of life
Coming from the outside world
And so, everything happens in our body
Everything
The outside is just waves of dreams
That our body swallows or chews
Absorbs or discharges in one or other forms
Things of Life that grow us into seasons
Seasons of life
In the beginning, we came from nothingness
Our bodies formed in the womb
Step by step, day by day, forming
Like sprouts coming from a seed, our limbs, and hearts
Beating, beating, beating
Beating for life until we learned
Until we learned why, for what, or for who
Our hearts beat
Then, we learn if there were other reasons why
Our hearts beat
In the beginning, the world came to us
Through the umbilical cord
Through our mother’s skin
We flowed through life when the time was the time
As a thing of life
We journeyed through the seasons
Seasons of life
We flowed from the womb to childhood
Crawling into our youth
And into adulthood, we scrambled
We set roots or never
Forever wandering, forever questioning
And to the aging years, we strode
And our bodies change
Change is the only reality we’ve access to
But then, there is death crouching there
Whose reality we won’t live
Which we sense but we don’t own
Which is another change into the unknown
Where did we come from?
We don’t know
Where were we before birth?
We don’t know
What do we know
We know that life dressed us with a body
With a heart, a mind, a spirit
Skin, blood, muscle, and bones
A constantly changing body
A constantly changing soul.
