Soulpunctures
According to Sal Godoij, a "soulpuncture" is every literary work that aims to stimulate the soul's energy.
Therefore, all poems, stories, comments, and ideas on this page are "soulpunctures."
It is the objective of this site (and of all Sal Godoij's writing for this matter) that every word said, sung, heard, written, or read punctures the soul and thus stimulates the soul's healing capability.
On Extraterrestrials
As the Earth enters critical cycles, natural and human-provoked, the interest in life on other planets has increased exponentially. Still, the question remains: why, to this date, have we not encountered intelligent extraterrestrials yet?
I Fell in Love on a Starry Night
I fell in love on a starry night
Beneath a rain of shooting stars
What a beautiful sight!
I held her in my arms
On Ignorance
When multiplied, weaknesses may become unmanageable forces. Ignorance, for example, might be a weakness; however, if it multiplies, it becomes a power. The power of ignorance has defied wisdom and common sense, defeated civilizations, and conquered the human spirit through millennia.
On Creativity
Creativity applies to any industry. It’s the root of civilization, and so it must be encouraged.
Indeed, we all agree, but how can I boost my creativity?
Many friends and colleagues asked me this question, and to the best of my knowledge and experience, I respond:
1. To boost your creativity, keep your mind, eyes, and ears open 24 hours a day. Yes, 24 hours, because most great ideas come in dreams. So, most importantly, try to remember your dreams.
If you cannot remember your dream, invent one.
Memories of Family Dinner Times.
When I was a kid, nine years old or so, at the table at dinner time, which happened to be the most significant moment of the day, we all, the family, gathered around the table. The dinner table had mandatory salt and pepper shakers and an oil and vinegar dispenser set.
On Life’s Purpose
What's life's purpose? I asked myself
And you, my friend, my brother, I know
You ask yourself the same question
Yet we must convince ourselves we're not alone
My friend, my brother, I don't want to distract you
From whatever keeps you busy or not
But we must focus on our eyes when focusing on nothingness
On Reading Books
Nowadays, people favour learning from screens rather than from books. Reading a book demands concentration, thinking, and imagination, which most people avoid. So they favour screens because screens deliver the whole thing instantly, thus diminishing the efforts required to read a book. Several factors may influence this sad trend: new technologies, time, space, volume, cost, life demands, etc.
I Dreamed I Was Born
I dreamed I was born
At a time, one day, somewhere
Among pain, screams, sweat, and blood
My dream was so unreal
Yet I felt alive, crying, breathing
My heart beating
And I was there, a newborn
Me, being held in the hands of destiny
On Brevity of Speech and Writing.
The good, if brief, twice good. The bad, if brief, is not so bad.
On a Happy, Long-Lasting Marriage
The secrets of a long-lasting, happy marriage are space and distance. You will have a happy life together if you respect each other’s space and distance. Marriage is like a delicate clock where every gear turns in rhythm and harmony and fits together at the exact time, thus moving forward in balance every moment, every day, every year. The other pieces of this clock are patience, respect, love, comprehension, and forgiveness.
On Reading
Since the beginning of civilization, books have been the compass that guides humankind to either heaven or hell and, sometimes, to paradise. Regretfully, people nowadays read little and mostly don’t even understand what they read.
Becoming a Poet
A poet is a philosopher
A lover of mirages, an architect of thoughts
Mirages and thoughts are verses of a poem
You're a poet if you build a road
And you walk on it
A road that goes through people's hearts
Tears and joy
We Were Friends
She and I were friends
Friendship added spice to our lives
And so it went until one moment
While wishing each other good night
At her doorstep
She whispered something in my ear
What it was, I don’t remember
I only remember we were friends
On Success
As painful as it is, we must learn about our limitations. We should know if the light we pursue is not a moon ray or if what we are chasing is a ghost or an illusion. We should know this because our spiritual peace, money, happiness, and health are at stake on the road to success.
On Happiness
Food for Thought.
Why, with all the power we possess as children of an almighty god, masters of all on Earth, discoverers of the unknown, explorers of outer space, conquerors of nature?
Why do we, scholars of all sciences, seekers of truth, creators of lies, why can't we, with all the power invested in us, find happiness?
On Suffering
My statement, highlighted below, invokes a profound reflection on the meaning of life. Since the beginning of times, suffering has accompanied humankind, and thus, suffering has been subject to deep study by thinkers, philosophers, and humanists, as well as most religions have built the core of their beliefs in suffering and sacrifice. Martyrs and heroes for diverse causes throughout the centuries have found that suffering is how to reach God or find life's meaning.
Withered Flowers
I was standing before a bouquet
Left on your grave by some unknown good soul
A long time ago, I must say
For the flowers had withered already
To the point of becoming thus brittle
Almost dust
